Softball Battles with No. 9 Berry, Sunday's Finale Postponed

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee softball team fell in a Saturday doubleheader to No. 9 Berry to open Southern Athletic Association play. With the predicted rain scheduled in the forecast, Sunday's finale has been postponed.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1
-After a scoreless opening inning, the ninth-ranked team in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association scored eight runs in the middle innings.

-In the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers opened their scoring by reaching on a Berry error.

-Kendell Goodrum and Emily Taylor had back-to-back productive at bats that resulted in an RBI groundout.

-The Vikings' bats came to life in the fifth with an eight-run frame. In the bottom half, with the bases loaded, Peri Prestwood worked a walk to bring home Maggie Willis.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2
-The Vikings struck first in the top half of the first inning, but the Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Taylor Wagner recorded an RBI double, while Miranda Townsend scored Wagner on a base hit.

-The visitors responded with a three-run frame to retake the lead, 4-2. Sewanee, in the bottom half, scored two more on a base hit by Wagner. Maggie Willis and Katie Roth scored on the play.

-Berry would not let the Tigers get back in it from there, as they scored the final eight runs to secure the 12-4 win.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Taylor Wagner finished with three hits on the day, while Hanna Judycki recorded a 3-for-4 game two.

-Kendell Goodrum (0-5) and Rowan Jordan (0-3) each suffered the loss.

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Samantha Crabtree finished the day with six hits and three RBI.

UP NEXT
With Sunday's finale postponed, Sewanee will begin a 17-game, four-city road swing. The trip begins next weekend with an SAA matchup against Millsaps.
