Volleyball Sweeps Oglethorpe on Senior Day to Conclude Conference Schedule

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee volleyball team bounced back on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Oglethorpe University in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play. The Tigers also celebrated Senior Day for its four seniors.

CLASS OF 2020!
-Prior to Saturday's match, seniors Constance Connolly, Macy Gardella, Aliyah McCane and Stephanie Price were recognized for their dedication and support to the volleyball program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams played back-and-forth to start the set, but it was the Petrels who got out to a 19-14 lead looking to steal a set. However, the Tigers responded with five straight points en route to a 7-1 run to lead, 21-20.

-Trailing 23-22, Sewanee secured the first set point of the contest with a Destiny Stewart kill and a Sewanee service ace, but the Petrels responded with back-to-back points of their own to lead, 25-24.

-Sewanee came roaring back to win the next three points to secure the first set, 27-25.

-In the second set, thanks to .320 attack percentage (11-3-25), the Tigers cruised to a 25-10 victory to lead the match two sets to none.

-The Stormy Petrels hung tough with the Tigers early, claiming a 9-8 lead before Sewanee went on a 9-2 run to win the match in straight sets.

-In Sewanee's win on Saturday, junior outside hitter Destiny Stewart posted her 1,000th career kill in her career with the program. The Alpharetta, Ga. native enters the final week of the season with 1,006 kills.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Destiny Stewart posted 10 kills and digs each in the victory for Sewanee.

-Lilly Reilly had seven kills in eight total attacks.

-Constance Connolly added 21 assists and 10 digs.

OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-TaKorya Green led the Petrels with eight kills, while Alex Prots had 13 digs.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will begin its final week of the regular season with a mid-week contest versus Covenant on Lookout Mountain Wednesday night.
