Men's Soccer Finishes in Third Place in Regular Season Standings with Loss to Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Centre in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon from Amend Field, as the Colonels snapped the Tigers' five-match winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee, after posting an offside early in the 33rd minute, scored at 32:42 mark from Andile Tshuma's third goal of the year from a Thompson Schollaert pass.

-Centre attempted to tie the contest in the 41st minute by Ethan Noel that James Murray saved.

-Trailing 1-0 at the intermission, the Colonels came out looking to even the match. After a shot attempt wide by Alexander Garuba 14 seconds into the period, he found the back of the net in the 48th minute to tie the match at one goal apiece.

-In the 68th minute, Dylan Barth scored to give Centre the lead for good.

-In the 86th minute, Garuba scored again to put the contest away.

-After allowing eight shots in the first 45 minutes, Centre held Sewanee to two shots, both by Evan Poole, in the second half. For the match, Centre had 24 total shots, 18 in the second stanza.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Evan Poole finished with three total shots, one on goal, for Sewanee.

-Christian Kirk and Thompson Schollaert each posted two shots each.

-James Murray (11-4-1) saved five shots in full time.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Alexander Garuba had 10 total shots, four on goal, with two goals scored.

-Tate Johnson saved three shots in the full 90 minutes.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will turn their attention to the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Men's Soccer Tournament, which begins on Saturday, Nov. 2. Despite the loss, Sewanee will host a quarterfinal match at Puett Field. Match times and opponent information will be given after the conference office releases the official bracket.
