Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to No. 24 Berry in its Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opener Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite going toe-to-toe with the defending SAA Regular Season and Tournament Champions, the Tigers could not keep pace in the opening set. Leading 7-6, Berry went on an 18-4 run to win the set, 25-11.
-The Purple and Gold's offense woke up in the second set, as they sprinted out to a 7-3 lead, but the Vikings caught up and eventually took over the lead against the home team thanks to a 12-4 run.
-The Tigers would get back into the set late. Trailing 22-17, the Tigers got the set down to two points, 22-20, thanks to an Ellie Pedersen kill and back-to-back service aces by Constance Connolly.
-Following a Berry timeout, the nationally-ranked team regained focus and took the set, 25-21.
-The Tigers repeated their effort in the third set, sprinting out to a 8-3 lead. However, the Vikings posted a .357 (13-3-28) attack percentage in the final set to secure the match, 25-18.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Destiny Stewart, Sydney White and Ellie Pedersen each tallied seven kills each.
-Lilly Reilly and Olivia Nichols also added 11 digs each. Reilly also posted three service aces.
-Mason Gardella contributed four kills and two blocks, while Constance Connolly assisted on 23 attacks.
BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Emily Hancock led all attackers with 13 kills, while Laura Beier posted 13 digs.
-Hannah Billiard finished with four blocks
