Football Drops 2018 Season Finale to Colonels

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee football team concluded the 2018 season with a 49-20 defeat to the Colonels of Centre College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Centre struck first on their first possession thanks to a two-yard run to give the home team the 7-0 advantage.

-On the ensuing drive, the Tigers struck the scoreboard on a 42-yard field goal by Michael Jacobs.

-Leading 7-3, Centre scored again late in the quarter on a 13-yard run by Trevor Carnell, who ate up the final 21 yards of the drive on the ground.

-Sewanee added a 48-yard field goal by Jacobs, as the Tigers trailed 14-6 with 13:43 left in the half.

-After a Centre punt, Sewanee's next drive saw them find the end zone. Capping off a 10-play, 76-yard drive, Micah Maes found Cyrus McCullough for a 19-yard touchdown catch to make it a one-point game with eight minutes left in the half.

-From there, it was all Centre, who scored on back-to-back drives to take a 28-13 lead into the locker room.

-The Colonels added 21 more points in the second half to lead 49-13.

-Sewanee added another touchdown with 4:31 left in the contest with a 24-yard run by Maes.

-Finishing with a four-win season, Sewanee earns its most wins in a season since 2013.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Serving as the quarterback, Micah Maes compiled 240 yards on his own, 120 through the air and 120 on the ground. The junior threw for a touchdown and ran for one also. He also averaged 28.4 yards on seven punts.

-Sam Everette also recorded a 100-yard game on the ground, finishing with 21 carries for 104 yards, while Cyrus McCullough caught six passes for 79 yards and a score.

-Conoly Koontz recorded eight tackles, two for a loss, and a sack, while Wesley Porter broke up three passes and posted seven tackles.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Tanner Young finished 16-of-28 for 256 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

-Colin Burnam scored three rushing touchdowns on 21 carries and 157 yards.

-Jaylen Jones and Alec Fontaine each recorded seven tackles for the hosts.
