Trinity Downs Football in Road SAA Matchup

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Sewanee football team could not overcome a 14-0 halftime deficit, as they fall to Trinity, 28-14, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee saw themselves down 7-0 on the first drive of the game by Trinity. On a six-play, 54-yard opening drive, Wyatt Messex found Tommy Lavine for a 15-yard touchdown catch.

-Early in the second quarter, Trinity's attempt of a 37-yard field goal went wide left, and the Tigers took over. On the first play of the Sewanee drive, Grayson Baker was picked off. Once the Trinity offense was back on the field, Messex found Lavine again for a 32-yard touchdown.

-Neither team could find the right side of the 50-yard-line the rest of the half, and the Texas Tigers had a 14-0 lead.

-Trinity, on their first drive of the second half, scored once again on a connection from Messex to Lavine, this time for 15 yards.

-On the next Sewanee drive, the Tigers used a 20-play, 81-yard drive that ended in a five-yard touchdown reception by Allan Puri. The drive saw the clock take away 9:38.

-Trinity added a score with 7:10 left in the contest on a Chris Stewart catch from Blake Johnson for nine yards.

-Trailing 28-7, Cyrus McCullough cut the deficit back to 14 with a 35-yard touchdown catch, but it would be as close as the Tigers would get.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Grayson Baker threw for two touchdowns on 21-of-42 passing and 188 yards.

-Warren Holland rushed the ball for 76 yards on 19 carries.

-Allan Puri andy Cyrus McCullough each recorded a receiving touchdown.

-Lee Menefee recorded 12 tackles and a sack for 12 yards.

-Karim Antoine posted 11 tackles and a sack.

TRINITY KEY STATISTICS
-Wyatt Messex threw for 153 yards on 8-of-19 passing and three scores.

-Tommy Lavine caught eight passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns.

-Jordan Williams recorded 10 tackles, three pass breakups and an interception.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will wrap up the home schedule with Homecoming against rival Rhodes. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. next Saturday.
