Tigers Stumble to Panthers in SAA Play

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee volleyball team were downed by the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at Juhan Gymnasium.

The Panthers (7-4, 2-1) took control in the first set, defeating the Tigers, 25-18.

In the second set, Sewanee (6-5, 2-2) got out to an impressive start and had a lead as big as nine points, but trailing 20-14, BSC went on an 11-1 run to claim the second set, 25-21.

BSC wrapped up the sweep in the third set with a 25-17 win.

The Tigers' attack percentage of .080 was the third-lowest on the season.

Destiny Stewart led all attackers with 14 kills and added five digs.

Olivia Nichols posted 14 digs and assisted on one block, while Peyton Parent had 12 digs and two service aces at libero.

Milea Ray recorded 10 kills to lead Birmingham-Southern, and Caroline Johnson and Melaina Hissam posted 14 digs each.

The Tigers return to the court Sunday with a tri-match with SAA foe Millsaps and Huntingdon. Sewanee will take on the Majors at 11 a.m., Huntingdon will take on Millsaps at 1 p.m., and the Hawks will tackle with the Tigers at 3 p.m.
