No. 18 Tigers advance to its fifth straight SAA Championship match with 5-0 win against BSC

CONWAY, Ark. (April 22, 2017) – The No. 18 ranked Sewanee men's tennis team advanced to its fifth straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship match with a 5-0 win against Birmingham-Southern, Saturday.

The Tigers are 4-0 all-time in league championship contests. Overall, Sewanee has a 20-3 record this season.

Sewanee opened the match with three straight doubles wins. At No. 1, Jack Gray and Alejandro Becker rolled past Anthony Pellegrini and Jacob Weinacker, 8-2. That was followed with an 8-5 win by Andres Carro and Jordan Brewer at No. 2 and an 8-6 victory from Avery Schober and Fletcher Kerr at No. 3.

In singles, Gray pushed the Tigers lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Pellegrini at No. 3. Carro closed out the win after he outlasted Alex Makarenko 6-3, 7-6 (10-3).
