SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 2, 2017) – The No. 18 Sewanee men's tennis team kept rolling Sunday with a 9-0 win against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Berry.
The Tigers have won six straight matches and are now 13-2 overall. During its recent winning streak, Sewanee has outscored its opponents 49-5.
On Sunday, the Tigers opened the match with three convincing doubles wins. At No. 1 Jack Gray and Alejandro Becker defeated Matt Blakey and Griffin Davis, 8-6. Avery Schober and Aubrey Davis teamed up for an 8-4 win against Ryan Miner and Chase Gooding at No. 2 while Davis Owen and Fletcher Kerr topped Jordan Crance and Matt Johnson by the same score.
In singles, Jordan Brewer opened with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Miner at No. 3. Schober then crushed Blakely at No. 1, 6-0, 6-4.
A court over, Andres Carro defeated Davis at No. 2, 6-1, 6-4 while at No. 6 Hayden Loeb earned a win with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 victory against Daniel Alligood.
The final two Sewanee victories came from Scott Gallimore at No. 5 and Owen at No. 4. Gallimore defeated Crance 6-4, 7-6 (5) while Owen picked up a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 victory against Gooding.
Sewanee returns to action with a 9:00 a.m. contest at Birmingham-Southern next Saturday.
