No. 18 Sewanee tops rival Rhodes, 6-3

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 15, 2017) – The No. 18 ranked Sewanee men's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 6-3 win over rival Rhodes, Saturday.

The Tigers opened by winning two out of three doubles matches. At No. 1, Jack Gray and Alejandro Becker continued their great season with an 8-4 victory over Vacheron and Oliver. Andres Carro and Jordan Brewer earned the other win with their 8-3 triumph over Morton and Hogan at No. 2.

In singles, Avery Schober pushed the Tigers' lead to 3-1 with a key 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 against Vacheron.

Jorden Brewer then defeated Hogan at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4 while Gray outlasted Morton at No. 3, 6-4, 7-5.

The final Tiger win came from Scott Gallimore at No. 6. The Tiger senior lost the first set 2-6 but rallied back in the second for a 6-4 win. Then in the third set tiebreaker, Gallimore closed out Shaw, 10-8.

Rhodes earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles as well as No. 3 doubles.
