No. 18 Tigers win their fifth straight SAA Regular Season Championship

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 14, 2017) – For the fifth straight season, the Sewanee men's tennis team has won at least a share of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Regular Season Championship. On Friday, after honoring its senior class, the No. 18-ranked Sewanee men's tennis team hammered conference rival Hendrix, 9-0.

The Tigers opened by sweeping all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, Jack Gray and Alejandro Becker defeated Karthik Garimrella and Ian McVinney, 8-1. At No. 2, Avery Schober and Scott Gallimore rolled over Kristian Lenser and Luke Lefler 8-2 while Hayden Loeb and Hamza Khan crushed Daniel Habenicht and Kiran Chakka at No. 3, 8-5.

At No. 1, Schober defeated Garimrella, 6-1, 6-0. Then at No. 2, Aubrey Davis outlasted Ian McVinney in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

A court over, Gallimore defeated Lenser in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 while at No. 4 Dane Hawthrone rolled past Lefler, 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 5, Becker earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Daniel Sweeney while Fletcher Kerr defeated Habenicht with perfect 6-0, 6-0 sets.
