No. 28 Sewanee keeps rolling with 7-2 win against No. 29 Swarthmore

SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 4, 2017) – Road warriors over the last few weeks, the No. 28th ranked Sewanee men's tennis team continued to play well with an impressive 7-2 win against No. 29 Swarthmore, Saturday.

The Tigers are now 7-1 this season. Their lone loss came in a long 5-4 contest at nationally ranked Mary Washington last Saturday.

Sewanee opened by winning at No. 2 doubles as Avery Schober and Andres Carro topped Powell and Cepelowiz, 8-4.

Sewanee took its first lead in singles when sophomore Jack Gray earned a strong 6-2, 6-0 victory against Josh Powell at No. 4. The Tigers kept rolling by sweeping the final five individual matches.

At No. 1, Schober hammered Mark Fallati with a pair of 6-3 set wins. At No. 2, Carro responded after losing the first set 7-6 by rallying back with strong 6-2 and 6-3 victories in sets two and three.

At No. 3, Davis Owen also rallied back after dropping the first set 6-4 to Simon Vernier. Owen came back and took the final two frames at 6-0, 7-6.

At No. 5, Aubrey Davis won against Michael Song with the match at 3-6, 5-5 before the Swarthmore student-athlete had to retire.

Finally, Jorden Brewer kept playing well with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Evan Han at No. 6.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 10:00 a.m. match at No. 38 ranked rival Washington & Lee, Sunday.
