Football Concludes Regular Season with Homecoming Contest to Centre

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee football team hosted Centre for Homecoming 2017 on Saturday in the 123rd regular season finale. The Colonels spoiled Homecoming with a 47-0 loss from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

Centre (8-1, 6-1) scored on a 23-yard field goal and a 61-yard return for a touchdown in the first quarter to make it 10-0. The Colonels followed suit with a 13-point second quarter to make it 23-0 lead at intermission.

The second half, the Colonels posted 24 more points enroute to a 47-0 shutout win.

It is the first time that the Tigers were held scoreless in a game since Nov. 14, 2015 against Hendrix.

Warren Holland carried the ball 18 times for 79 yards for the Tigers, while Micah Maes caught four catches for 23 yards.

Lee Menefee posted 13 tackles, while William Phillips had two kickoff returns for 106 yards, including a 78-yard return in the first half.

In the last three seasons, the football program recorded three wins in the last three years. The 2017 edition of the Sewanee football program finished 3-7 in Travis Rundle's first season as head coach.
