Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 9, 2016) – Even after over an hour delay to start the match, the Sewanee men's soccer team remained unbeaten early this season with a perfect 4-0 win over visiting Fisk, Friday night, at Puett Field.
The Tigers continue to dominate their opponents with their fourth straight victory. The home purple and gold have now outscored their opposition, 20-3.
Sewanee opened its scoring when Alpo Sipillä, the freshman forward, latched onto a ball from Kyle Johnston and produced a moment of brilliance as he saw his strike rip into the back of the net. With five minutes left in the first half, Reid Turner fired home an assist from Tristan Carlson.
As play continued, Sewanee added one final goal before halftime. With a minute left in the first half, the Tigers advanced their lead to 3-0 as Alpo produced an absolute stunner. Picking the ball up from 45 yards out, he drove down the center of the pitch. Unmarked, he spotted the keeper slightly off his line and unleashed a strike from 35 out that dipped into the net.
The best scoring chance in the second came from Noah Day, who fired a hard attempt that was tipped, but overpowered the Fisk keeper for the final goal.
Overall, Sewanee dominated with 16 shots and eight corners.
The Tigers quickly return to action with a match against Piedmont, Saturday.
