Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2016) – Led by a .269 attack percentage and 11.33 assist per set, the Sewanee volleyball team opened its 2016 season by sweeping Boyce and Huntingdon, Friday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers topped both visitors by 3-0 scores. Sewanee opened with a 25-16, 25-15, and 25-15 victory against the Bulldogs before grounding the Hawks 25-19, 25-18, 25-12.
Overall, Sewanee was led by numerous student-athletes. Senior Diamond Stewart finished with 20 kills and 12 digs while fellow senior Sara Jayne Sutton added 20 digs and six assists from her libero position. Additionally, Sutton recorded career dig 1,000 early in the first set against Boyce.
Also, juniors Caroline Owens and Elizabeth Gill both finished with double-digit kills. Owens added 15 kills while Gill finished with 12. Freshman setter Anna Wilson also played well as she opened her career with 29 assists and eight digs.
Finally, the Tigers limited their opponents to a .066 attack percentage.
Sewanee continues its invitational with a pair of matches, Saturday.
