Box Score HAMPDEN, Va. (Sept. 16, 2016) – A late goal by Ryan Turner lifted host Hampden-Sydney to a 1-0 win over the Sewanee men's soccer team, Saturday, at Miller Field.
Hampden-Sydney improved to 5-0-0 this season while the Tigers dropped their first game and are now 4-1-1.
In a match that featured one of the top offensive teams in the nation in Sewanee and one of the top defensive teams in Hampden-Sydney, the visiting Tigers finished with 13 shots. That allowed Sewanee to finish with a 13-7 advantage in attempts.
Despite giving up only three shots on goal, Turner netted the game-winner for HSC when he completed a great crossing pass from Michael Bell in the 72nd minute.
Matt Hawse, Zach Birkhead, and Ben Vaeth led Sewanee with two shots each.
The Tigers quickly return to action with a 1:00 p.m. match against Randolph, Sunday.
