Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 12, 2016) – Despite recording a season high in digs and assists, the Sewanee volleyball team opened Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a 3-2 loss against rival Centre.
The Colonels opened with a 25-22 first-set win. After the Tigers clawed back in the second with a 25-16 win, Centre earned the third set by a 25-20 score. Despite forcing a fifth set by winning the fourth at 25-21, Sewanee fell in the final frame, 15-5.
Overall, Sewanee is 6-2 this season and are now 0-1 to start conference action. Centre improved to 4-4 overall and is now 1-0 in SAA play.
Junior Caroline Owens led the Tiger offense with a season-high 11 kills and a .254 attack percentage. No other player finished in double-digit kills despite 174 total attacks.
At setter, freshman Anna Wilson finished with 25 assists to go along with 12 digs. Classmate Constance Connolly added 20 assists and 15 digs while libero Sara Jayne Sutton finished with 22 stops.
Additionally, Diamond Stewart added eight kills and 14 digs while freshman Abbey Adams finished with a career-high four kills.
Sewanee continues SAA action with a 10:00 a.m. match against Birmingham-Southern, Saturday.
