Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2016) – Freshman Ben Vaeth ripped in an impressive goal in the 58th minute as the Sewanee men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 1-1 double overtime draw against visiting Piedmont, Saturday, at Puett Field.
The Tigers are now 4-0-1 this season. Sewanee will put its unbeaten streak on the line next weekend with a road trip to Virginia for matches against Hampden-Sydney and Randolph.
Piedmont's lone goal came with 21 minutes off the clock as Cullen Copland scored off a double assist from Jose Linares and Luke Martin.
Overall, Sewanee dominated in shots with a 25-10 advantage. Forward Matt Hawse led the attack with seven attempts while Max Hawes and Vaeth each finished with six shots.
In goal, freshman Will Merriman stopped three attempts while defenders Ryan MacDonald, Zach Zimmerman, Johnny McNeill, and Zach Birkhead turned away a number of opportunities by Piedmont counterattacks.
