Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2016) – A goal in each half led the Sewanee women's soccer team to a 2-0 opening-match win at regional-rival Maryville, Thursday evening.
With their victory, the Tigers have not lost a regular season match since September 15, 2015. Sewanee's current regular season winning streak now stands at 10 matches.
With a dominating performance in the first-half, senior Shelby Meckstroth opened the scoring when she netted career goal number 28 off an assist from classmate Tasha Saunders in the 25th minute.
The score remained at 1-0 until early in the second half when sophomore Savannah Williams scored off a great pass from senior Martha Dinwiddie.
Overall, the Tigers dominated the stats with a 10-4 advantage in shots and a 7-3 margin in corner kicks. With that, six Sewanee players had shots, led by Meckstroth's three.
In net, freshman Samantha Bourgeois and a backline defense led by Dinwiddie, Baker Walls, Elizabeth Eidson, and Kiley Ezzell limited the Scots' offense throughout the contest. Only forward Kaitlyn Kennedy had multiple shots for Maryville.
Sewanee continues its long opening road trip with a 3:30 p.m. (ETS) match against Roanoke in Lynchburg, Va., Saturday.
