SEWANEE, Tenn. (Aug. 4, 2016) – Former Sewanee multiple sport student-athlete Amy Lee, C'16, has become the 33rd Tiger student-athlete to receive a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletic competition.
Lee graduated from the University of the South with a 3.71 grade point average (GPA) in biology. She was a multiple USTFCCCA Academic All-American and a four-time Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Academic Honor Roll member.
Additionally, Lee served the local community through a number of community service events and conducted ethnographic research on maternity in Grundy County that helped Grundy County High School receive a grant that renovated their old facility.
As an athlete, Lee earned letters in cross country, swimming, and track and field. On the cross country course, Lee was a four-time All-SAA runner and a two-time NCAA All-Region performer. In track, Lee was a two-time All-SAA honoree.
Lee becomes the first-ever Tiger cross country or track athlete to be awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She is now the fifth member of the swimming and diving team to win this honor. The last members were Brian Glatt, C'15, along with Sara Neil, C'13, and Phillip Link, C'13.
With 33 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, Sewanee ranks among the nation's leading institutions in any NCAA division. Seven Tigers have been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship since 2013.
Created in 1964, NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. There are 29 male and 29 female student-athletes honored, with each receiving $7,500.
