SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 5, 2016) – The No. 28 ranked Sewanee men's tennis team swept regional-rival Covenant 9-0, Tuesday, at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Courts.
The Tigers improved their record to 11-5 and have won seven straight contests.
Sewanee opened by winning all three doubles matches. At the number one position, No. 2 ranked Eric Roddy and Jack Gray survived a tough match against Harris and Cox, 9-8, (9-7).
Then Avery Schober and Fletcher Kerr defeated Wood and Shimmel, 8-0 at No. 2 while Blake Wilde and Scott Gallimore topped Madden and Hutchinson by the same score.
In singles action, Sewanee continued to dominate.
At No. 1 singles Schober defeated Harvie with 6-1, 6-2 sets. At No. 2, Gray rolled over Cox 6-2, 6-0 while Davis Owen won against Wood at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0.
Additionally, Kerr defeated Shimmel 6-0, 6-0 while Gallimore crushed Madden 6-2, 6-0.
Finally, Sean Halloran defeated Hutchinson at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1.
