No. 17 Birmingham-Southern opens series with a 16-4 win over Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 2, 2016) – Despite a 2-for-3 performance from Courtney Saunders, the Sewanee softball team dropped 16-4 decision to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival No. 17 Birmingham-Southern, Saturday, at Tiger Field.

The loss snapped the Tigers' five-game winning streak.

The Panthers scored two runs in the first, five in the second, one in the third, seven in the fourth, and one in the fifth. Sewanee got on the board with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Overall, BSC finished with 11 hits, which included two doubles by Amanda Ballew and two homeruns by Savannah Lee.

BSC starter Taylor Harkins improved to 13-2 after she allowed only one hit through the first 3.2 innings.

Saunders led Sewanee at the plate with two hits and three RBI. Mackenzie Hobbs also finished with two hits and two runs scored while Katie Roth drove in one.
