ORANGE, Calif. (March 12, 2016) – The No. 28 ranked Sewanee men's tennis team continued its west coast spring break trip with a 7-2 win over No. 37 Chapman, Saturday, at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Club.
The Tigers improved their overall record to 5-5 while Chapman dropped to 1-4.
Sewanee opened the match by winning two of three doubles contests. At No. 3 doubles, Avery Schober and Connor Winkler defeated Sam Mitteldorf and Hunter Morris, 8-6.
At the No. 1 position, No. 2 ranked Jack Gray and Eric Roddy outlasted Brett Buford and Charlie Werman 9-8 (4).
The lone early Chapman win came at No. 2 as Brock DeHaven and Josh Sarsfield defeated Alex Depascual and Scott Gallimore, 8-4,
As singles action opened, Sewanee pulled away.
At No. 1 Schober defeated Buford in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Then at No. 2 Roddy topped Mitteldorf 6-2, 6-0 while Gallimore defeated Werman 7-6 (4), 6-3 at No. 4.
Additionally, Fletcher Kerr defeated DeHaven at No. 5 in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 while Davis Owen rolled past Justin Thompson at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
Sewanee returns to action at Whittier, Monday.
