SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 6, 2016) – The No. 29th ranked Sewanee men's tennis team rolled past nationally-ranked NAIA program Tennessee Wesleyan, 8-1, Saturday, on the Burton-Guerry Tennis Courts.
The Tigers opened their afternoon contest by winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, No. 2 ranked Eric Roddy and Jack Gray hammered Frederico Staksrud and Jamie Lirado, 8-2. Freshman Alex Depascual and junior Scott Gallimore defeated Pancho Gallardo and Alejandro Prada, 8-5. At No. 3 Fletcher Kerr and Avery Schober topped Oleskii Lahuza and Jacob Dorey, 8-4.
In singles action, Schober won at No. 1 against Lirado 6-2, 7-5 while Roddy won at No. 2 against Staksrud by the same score.
At No. 3 singles, Gray earned his first career individual dual match singles win by topping Gallardo with a pair of 6-3 sets.
After Tennessee Wesleyan won its lone singles contest at No. 4, Sewanee answered with victories by Kerr over Joe Torres, 6-1, 6-1, and Connor Winkler against Albero Escobar, 6-1, 6-2.
Sewanee returns to action with a 9:00 a.m. Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match against rival Centre on February 14th.
