Sewanee falls in season opener at Berry

ROME, Ga. (Feb. 19, 2016) – The Sewanee softball team opened its 2016 season with a 15-2 loss at Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Berry, Friday, at Ford Field.

The Vikings scored eight runs in the bottom of the first and then added one in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth.

Sewanee got on the board in the top of the third when Caroline Holmes drove in Miranda Townsend. Later in the inning, Emily Taylor scored on a Berry error.

Townsend was charged with the loss as she allowed 13 runs inside the circle. Berry starter Marie Collop earned the win with three strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

The two league rivals will complete the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
