Austin and Millsaps sweep Sewanee

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

JACKSON, Miss. (Oct. 16, 2016)  The Sewanee volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Sunday on the campus of Millsaps College. The Tigers fell to the Majors 3-0 and then dropped a 3-1 contest to the Kangaroos.

Like Saturday at Birmingham-Southern, Sewanee struggled on offense against Millsaps. No Tiger finished with double-digit kills while Sara Jayne Sutton and Anna Wilson both finished with 17 digs.

Constance Connolly was the lone high mark on offense as the first-year setter finished with 11 assists.

After falling 25-17, 25-21, and 25-19 to Millsaps, Sewanee rebounded by winning the first set against Austin, 29-27. Unfortunately, Austin came back to win the final three sets 25-17, 25-23, and 25-15.

Unlike the match against Millsaps, the Tiger offense did improve. Diamond Stewart finished with 15 kills and nine digs against the Kangaroos. Connolly was again another key to the offense as she finished with a career-high 27 assists. On defense, Kristy Gray had 12 digs while Sutton added 26 stops from her backline libero position.

With an 8-13 overall record, Sewanee will look to snap its seven-match losing streak with a 1:00 p.m. match at Rhodes, Saturday.
