Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2016) – Despite winning the first set, the Sewanee volleyball team could not prevail dropping a 3-1 match at Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre, Tuesday, inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Tigers opened the match with a 25-21 win over the Colonels. However, Centre rallied back to win the final three sets, 25-13, 26-24, and 27-25. Sewanee has now lost its last three sets that have gone into extra points over the last two matches.
Overall, Sewanee is now 8-10 while Centre improved to an even 10-10 record. After four straight losses, the Tigers are 2-8 in SAA action. After defeating Sewanee 3-2 earlier in the season, the Colonels are now 7-2 in league play.
Individually, freshman Mason Gardella continued to improve posting a career-high 12 kills on 24 attacks. Classmates Anna Wilson and Constance Connolly were a big reason why as the two Tiger setters combined for 35 assists.
On defense, senior libero Sara Jayne Sutton led the backline with 20 digs. Wilson was the only other Tiger with double-digit digs as she finished with 12 stops.
Hailey Foote and Peyton Vacala led Centre will 11 kills each.
Sewanee continues its lengthy road trip with a 1:00 p.m. match at Birmingham-Southern, Saturday.
