Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2015) – Despite forcing the first two sets into extra points, the Sewanee volleyball team's great effort was not enough as the Tigers dropped a 3-0 match against No. 21 Berry, Sunday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers are now 9-5 overall and 2-3 in SAA action. The nationally-ranked Vikings improved to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Despite the 3-0 final, the match was anything but a blowout. Sewanee held an early lead in the first two sets before Berry rallied to take both in extra points, 29-27. The Vikings then held on in the third set by a score of 25-19.
Overall, both teams were fairly even statistically. Berry hit .197 while the Tigers finished with a .174 attack percentage. On defense, Sewanee finished with 58 total digs while Berry stopped 60 attacks.
Individually, Diamond Stewart finished with 16 kills. The Nashville, Tenn., native now has nine matches this season in which she has recorded at least 10 kills.
Additionally, Maggie Stanford added 10 kills while Caroline Montgomery finished with eight. Setter Walker Buxton finished with 31 assists, five kills, and nine digs while libero Sara Jayne Sutton pitched in 22 digs. Caroline Owens also played well with 10 digs.
Outside hitter Christina Goforth led Berry with a match-high 15 kills.
Sewanee returns to action with a 7:00 p.m. (EST) match at Covenant, Tuesday.
