Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 28, 2015) – The Sewanee softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at Tiger Field to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Berry.
The visiting Vikings earned a 21-0 victory in the opener and then took the second game by a 20-0 score.
In the first game, Berry led 8-0 heading into the top of the fourth before platting nine more runs. The Vikings then scored four more runs in the top of the fifth.
Starter Kayla Davis earned the win after she tossed a scoreless complete game while striking out four.
Sewanee was led on offense by Shayla Vandergriff, Sara Burklin, Courtney Saunders, and Grace Cobbs who all finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
In the nightcap, Berry's big inning came again in the fourth. Leading 7-0 the Vikings scored 12 runs on 11 hits which broke the game open.
Berry starter Allison Coronado earned the win after going 5.0 innings with three strikeouts.
Sewanee's top of the lineup again led the offense as Vandergriff, Holmes, and Burklin each had a hit.
Sewanee and Berry are scheduled to conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader, Sunday.
