Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Ky. (March 15, 2015) – Behind a strong offensive performance, Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre completed a sweep of the Sewanee softball team Sunday at Boyle County High School.
The Colonels earned a 15-3 win in the opener and then took the final game by a score of 12-0.
Centre pounded out 12 hits in the first game and nine in the second game.
After Centre scored two runs in the top of the first inning, Sewanee answered back in the bottom of the first. After Shayla Vandergriff walked, Caroline Holmes singled. Then with one out, Courtney Saunders drove in Vandergriff with a grounder to short.
The Tigers would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth when Vandergriff launched a deep home run with Amanda Watters on first. In fact, that was the first homer by the Tigers the last two seasons.
Jessika Young earned the win for Centre after allowing all three earned runs in a complete-game three hitter.
In the second game Centre starter Erika Brewer dominated. Brewer earned her second win this spring with a two-hit complete-game shutout. She also struck out five.
The two Tigers hits in the game two came from Holmes and Gabby Sanders.
Sewanee continues its season with a doubleheader against Wesleyan, Wednesday.
