ELSAH, Ill. (Feb. 28, 2015) – The Sewanee men's tennis team stayed unbeaten with road wins against Principia and at Illinois Wesleyan, Saturday.
The Tigers are now a perfect 5-0 on the season.
Sewanee opened by topping Principia 8-1 before defeating Illinois Wesleyan, 7-2.
In the opener, Sewanee took two out of three doubles matches. The Tiger team of Avery Schober and Eric Roddy won at No. 1, 8-4. Alex Cooper and Davis Owen then swept their match at No. 3 with a perfect 8-0 victory.
In singles action Schober, Roddy, Rand Jackson, Scott Gallimore, Cooper, and Blake Wilde all won. In fact, Sewanee did not loss a set in all six singles matches.
In the afternoon contest against Illinois Wesleyan, Gallimore and Owen teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-4. The Tigers also won at No. 3 when Schober and Wilde topped Hyland and Plotrowski at No. 3, 8-1.
In singles action Schober, Gallimore, Owen, Sean Laughlin, and Cooper all closed out the scores with wins. The only Tiger loss was a tough three-set match by Schober at No. 1.
Sewanee will face a tough opponent Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. match at No. 5 Washington University (St. Louis).
