SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2015) – The Sewanee men's tennis team stayed unbeaten with a perfect 9-0 win over regional-rival Covenant, Tuesday, inside the Charlotte Guerry Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Tigers are a perfect 3-0. Sewanee has outscored its opponents 26-1 this season.
The Tigers opened the contest by winning all three doubles matches. In fact, Sewanee won by a combined score of 24-4.
Along with Avery Schober and Eric Roddy's win at No. 1, Davis Owen and Connor Winkler topped Chris Cox and Connor Shimmel at No. 2. Additionally, Sean Laughlin and Alex Cooper crushed Roy Anderson and Dan Madden at No. 3.
In singles play, Niamke Shropshire-Boykin and Blake Wilde both won at No. 5 and No. 6 by 6-1, 6-0 score.
At No. 2 singles Roddy topped Cox 6-0, 6-3 while at No. 3 Rand Jackson rolled past Michael O'Brien 6-1, 6-2.
Also Scott Gallimore had little trouble against Anderson at No. 4 winning 6-1, 6-3. Finally, No. 30-ranked Schober outlasted Matthew Harvie at the No. 1 position 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
The Tigers return to action with their first two road matches of the season, Saturday. Sewanee will take on Principia and Illinois Wesleyan.
