Men's tennis opens by sweeping Piedmont, 9-0

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2015) – The Sewanee men's tennis team opened its season with a perfect 9-0 sweep of visiting Piedmont Friday inside the Charlotte Guerry Tennis Center.

After winning all three doubles matches, Sewanee swept all six singles matches in straight sets.

At the number one position nationally-ranked No. 30 sophomore Avery Schober topped Nathan Metzger 6-0, 6-1. Eric Roddy then won at No. 2 over Matthew Metzger by the same 6-0, 6-1 score.

Rand Jackson then made quick work of Trey Martin at No. 3 with a pair of 6-1 set wins. Scott Gallimore won his match at No. 4 over Brent Jenkins 6-3, 6-0 while Davis Owen breezed past Bryan Barnett 6-2, 6-0.

Finally, Sean Laughlin defeated Robbie Werner at No. 6 with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Sewanee will open its Southern Athletic Association (SAA) schedule with a 9:00 a.m. match against Centre, Sunday.
