Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Oct. 6, 2015) – Four first-half goals by four different players led the Sewanee field hockey team to a 4-3 road victory over Virginia Wesleyan, Monday, at Birdsong Field.
Sewanee is now 7-2 overall while Wesleyan dropped to 2-8.
Sewanee quickly scored just two minutes into the match, as Catherine Estes ripped in a shot from Emma Horgan. After VWC tied the match at 1-1, Sewanee rolled the remainder of the half.
Virginia Barry netted her second goal in two days off an assist from Carrie Anderson and Kat Mulligan. The Tigers then made the score 3-1 as Devon Davis scored in the 23rd minute off a pass from Katie Wilson.
The Tigers closed the half in the 41st minute as Horgan scored an unassisted goal.
Virginia Wesleyan rallied in the second half with two goals. Any chance by Wesleyan to complete the comeback was stopped as Tiger keeper Caroline Brennan made four saves which maintained the lead. Fellow keeper Katya Waters played the first 35 minutes of the match in goal and stopped one shot.
After three matches in four days, Sewanee returns to action with an 11:00 a.m., contest Saturday against rival Rhodes.
