Rhodes storms back for a 3-1 win

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2015) – After winning the first set at 31-29, the Sewanee volleyball team was unable to hold off Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes, as the Lynx stormed back for a 3-1 win over the Tigers inside Juhan  Gymnasium.

The Tigers fought match point at 25-24 to stay in the first set. After a Lynx service error, Sewanee took a 26-25 lead when Rhodes's Lulu Schulz hit the ball wide. Each team then traded points up to a kill by Diamond Stewart that gave Sewanee a 30-29 lead. The Tigers then closed the set when Walker Buxton tipped over a cross-court shot.

Unfortunately, Rhodes picked up its attack the final three sets. The Lynx hit a combined .319 while limiting Sewanee to a .080 percentage during that same stretch.

Stewart led the offense with 18 kills and 11 digs. That was her seventh double-double this season. The majority of those points came off the pass of Buxton, who finished with 23 assists. Additionally, Buxton had nine kills as did senior Caroline Montgomery.

Finally, on defense, Sara Jayne Sutton added 18 digs.

Sewanee will open the SAA Tournament against Birmingham-Southern on Friday, November 6th on the campus of Hendrix College.
