Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2015) – A first-half goal by Tyler Edell helped the Sewanee women's soccer team to an impressive 1-0 victory over in-state rival Maryville, Friday, at Puett Field.
Battling injuries, the cold, fog, and rain, the Tigers consistently got better throughout the evening. Maryville, who entered the match with a 7-2-0 record, lost for the first time since September 18th. The Scots entered the contest on a four-match winning streak.
Sewanee now has its own unbeaten streak at four matches.
With both teams trying to find their rhythm, Edell broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 23rd minute. The Tigers were able to hold their lead behind strong play in the midfield and a combined shutout in goal by Savannah Williams and Olivia Glascoe.
Overall, the Tigers finished with 13 shots, including five on-goal. Sewanee also finished with six corner kicks.
Along with Edell, Nikki Johnston finished with three shots.
Natasha Enrique led Maryville's attack with two shots.
The Tigers quickly return to action with a 5:00 p.m. Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match against Oglethorpe, Saturday.
