Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 5, 2014) – The Sewanee volleyball team pushed its winning streak to three straight matches Friday, as the Tigers picked up a pair of wins against Brescia and LaGrange inside the Fowler Athletic Center.
Sewanee opened the afternoon with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16) victory against the Bearcats and then topped the Panthers for the second time this season, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-21).
On the day, the Tigers finished with a .149 attack percentage. Sewanee was consistent off the attack with 37 kills against Brescia and then 38 against LaGrange.
Individually, sophomore Diamond Stewart led the offense with 21 kills. The Nashville, Tenn., native finished with 11 kills in the opener and then followed that 10 kills in the win against LaGrange.
Additionally, setters Walker Buxton and Rachel Schuman played well. Buxton finished with 16 assists and 16 digs while Schuman added 23 assists and three service aces.
Finally, Maggie Stanford finished with eight kills on 26 attacks.
On defense, second-year libero Sara Jayne Sutton also continued to shine. Sutton finished with a combined 39 digs and two aces. In fact, Sutton has now recorded at least 15 digs every match this season.
Sewanee continues its two-day home event with a pair of matches, Saturday. The Tigers will open with a noon contest against Pikeville inside the Fowler Athletic Center.
