A strong defense helps Berry past Sewanee

Box Score

ROME, Ga. (Sept. 27, 2014) – A .226 attack percentage and a strong defensive effort helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) host Berry defeat the Sewanee volleyball team 3-0, Saturday inside the Cage Center.

The Vikings earned game wins of 25-18, 26-24, and 25-19.

Despite playing three close sets, Sewanee could not overcome a .103 attack percentage and only 23 kills. A big reason Sewanee had trouble on offense was the play of Berry's outstanding defense.

Viking libero Katie Truluck finished with 15 digs while teammate Elizabeth Ragland added 10 stops. As a team, Berry stopped 55 Sewanee attacks.

Diamond Stewart, who finished with seven kills, led Sewanee. Libero Sara Jayne Sutton added 15 digs while Rachel Schuman pitched in nine assists.

Middle blocker Casey Hassett also finished with 3.5 blocks while Caroline Owens added two.

Sewanee continues conference play with a noon match at Oglethorpe, Sunday.
