Women's soccer falls in a close match against Hanover

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2014) – Two goals by Anna Cornacchione lifted visiting Hanover past the Sewanee women's soccer 2-1, Saturday, at Puett Field.

Hanover took the lead in the fifth minute when Cornacchione blasted an unassisted shot past Sewanee keeper Olivia Glascoe.

Sewanee tied the match right before the half when Jordan Najmabadi scored in the 42nd minute.

Unfortunately, Cornacchione would net the game-winner quickly in the second half. The Panther attacker blasted home the goal in the 46th minute.

Overall, Sewanee finished with a 15-11 advantage in shots. The Tigers also led in corner kicks, 5-1.

Along with Cornacchione, the biggest differences in the win was the play of Hanover keeper Karlee Vanderweele. Vanderweele finished with five key saves that insurance the win.

Sewanee returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match against Centre next Saturday.
