Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2014) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes defeated the Sewanee field hockey team 4-1, Saturday, at Puett Field.
The league-leading Lynx scored their first goal when Shauni Cowan found the back of the cage from Evy Rother in the 13th minute.
Sewanee responded nine minutes later when Janie Spilman tied the match at 1-1. After the Rhodes keeper covered the ball, Spilman was awarded a a stroke. On the stroke, Spilman drove the shot past the Rhodes keeper in the right corner of the cage.
Unfortunately, the Lynx would add two more scores, including one right before the half, to hold on for the win.
Overall, Rhodes led in shots 28-8. The Lynx also finished with a 19-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Individually, Allegra Massey-Elim, Carrie Anderson, and Sarah Barry both finished with a team-leading two shots.
Sewanee returns to action with a noon match at Transylvania, Sunday.
