Strong attack lifts Centre past Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2014) – Behind an outstanding attack, Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre opened conference play with a 3-0 win against the Sewanee volleyball team, Wednesday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Colonels (3-9, 1-0 SAA) entered the match on a seven-match losing streak, however Centre opened the first set on fire. The Colonels led 6-1 after Suzanee Asbury served her second straight ace. 

After a close second set, Centre hit .382 en route to a final 25-16 victory.

For the evening, the visiting Colonels finished with a strong .323 attack percentage. Along with Beth Cecil's match-high 16 kills, Centre had two other players with eight points.

Senior Jamie Sue Wilson led Sewanee (3-7, 0-1 SAA) with eight kills while libero Sara Jayne Sutton finished with 13 digs. 

Sewanee continues league play with a 1:00 p.m., contest against rival Rhodes, Saturday.
