Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 6, 2014) – Five homeruns helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) leader Birmingham-Southern to a series sweep over the Sewanee softball team Sunday at Tiger Field.
The Panthers earned a 20-2 win in the opener and then took the final game by a score of 14-0.
In game one BSC blasted four homeruns, including two by Bethany Fronk and a grandslam by Hannah Harris.
Despite being down 4-0 after the top of the first, Sewanee rallied back in the bottom of the inning. With two outs Kate Heil doubled which advanced Tori Haugvoll to third. A batter later Gabby Sanders brought both Tigers in with a double in the right field gap.
Unfortunately, BSC would comeback and score nine runs in the top of the second and then seven more in the final three innings.
In the second game the Panthers took advantage of a two-out rally in the first. That helped BSC score four runs each of the first three innings to take a 12-0 lead into the fourth.
Sewanee starter Grace Cobbs settled down from there. In her first action in the circle all season, Cobbs allowed only two runs and four hits the final two innings.
The Tigers will step away from SAA play with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Judson, Wednesday.
