Centre opens series with two wins over Sewanee

DANVILLE, Ky. (March 8, 2014) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Centre swept a doubleheader over the Sewanee softball team Saturday at South Field.

The Colonels opened Saturday with a 9-1 victory.

After Centre scored three runs in the bottom of second, the Tigers scored their only run in the top of the fourth.

Gabby Sanders singled to open the inning. Courtney Saunders then advanced Sanders with another single. A batter later, Sanders scored after advancing to third with a steal.

Centre starter Elysee Petrie earned the win with 10 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.

In the nightcap Katie Heil and Sanders picked up Sewanee's only two hits, as the Tigers dropped an 8-0 contest.

Heil was charged with the loss in the circle for Sewanee. Despite allowing only four earned runs, Sewanee gave up two errors.

The Tigers and the Colonels will wrap up their four-game SAA series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon.
