Box Score 2 MACON, Ga. (March 21, 2014) – The Sewanee softball team earned a pair of wins at Wesleyan (Ga.) Friday in Macon, Ga.
The Tigers topped Wesleyan 3-1 in the opener and then earned a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.
Game 1
Led by an outstanding pitching performance from Michelle Thibodeaux, the Tigers allowed only one run and six hits in 7.0 innings.
Sewanee opened the game with a single run in the top of the first. With two outs, Gabby Sanders ripped an RBI single that scored Sarah Fleming.
After Wesleyan tied the game in the third, Sewanee took the lead for good when Tori Haugvoll tripled and Fleming followed with a bunt single.
Fleming led Sewanee with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate. Kate Heil also added two hits while Sanders and Thibodeaux each finished with one hit.
Game 2
Like the first game, Sewanee got off to a quick start. The Tigers scored two runs in the first off a Heil double.
Wesleyan did responded with three runs over the next five innings.
Sewanee tied the game in the top of the sixth, as Haugvol singled in Grace Cobbs.
Then in the bottom of the seventh, Kali Ousley reached on a throwing error. On the play, Thibodeaux and Heil were both able to advance home on the error.
Then in the bottom of the seventh, Sewanee held on as Thibodeaux allowed only one hit.
The top of the Tiger order led the way at the plate. Haugvoll, Fleming, Courtney Saunders, and Heil all finished with at least two hits. Cobbs, batting in the sixth hole, finished 2-for-4 with one run scored.
In the circle, Heil tossed 4.0 innings in the win while Thibodeaux struck out three in 3.0 innings of relief.
Sewanee returns to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a noon doubleheader at Berry, Saturday.
