Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2014) – An 18-4 run to start the game, helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes defeat the Sewanee women's basketball team 70-50 in the SAA Tournament, Friday, inside Mallory Gymnasium.
The Tigers end their season with a 9-17 overall record. Rhodes advances to the conference semifinals with a 22-3 mark.
After its slow start, the Tigers pulled to within 10 points, 20-10, after a 6-2 run. During that stretch, Jamie Chauvin made back-to-back jumpers and Savannah Rose hit a pair of free throws.
Unfortunately, Rhodes outscored Sewanee 17-11 to end the half.
Out of the locker, the Lynx took command with five straight points. Down 42-21 with 16:43 to play, Sewanee kept fighting.
Layups by Rose, Kayla Sewell, and Haley Lyerly sparked a 20-13 Sewanee rally.
However, after a Paige Lowe three with 8:30 remaining, the Lynx responded with an 18-8 run.
Overall, Sewanee made 31.9 percent of its attempts. Rhodes finished with a 43.6 field goal percentage, which included an 8-for-19 effort from beyond the three-point line.
Individually, Chauvin led Sewanee with 16 points. Sewell pitched in 13 points and six rebounds while Lowe closed out her career with 11 points.
Additionally, after making 2-of-3 free throws attempts on Friday, Lowe finished the season with an 86.0 free throw percentage. That was just short of the Sewanee single-season record of 86.1 percent set by Silvana Toro.
Friday marked the final game for Lowe and fellow senior Clarissa Medley.
