Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 29, 2014) – The Sewanee volleyball team wrapped up its 2014 regular season Wednesday with a close 3-2 loss against visiting Covenant inside Juhan Gymnasium.
After winning the first set 25-17, Sewanee dropped the next two frames 25-17 and 25-22. The Tigers then bounced back with a 25-20 fourth-set victory. Unfortuantley, the Lady Scots rallied for a final-set 15-9 win.
Overall, Sewanee played hard. In the two sets that they won, the Tigers finished with at least a .220 attack percentage. Comparably, Sewanee hit .149 in the three sets that it lost.
Individually, Diamond Stewart led the attack with 14 kills. Senior Jamie Sue Wilson, who was honored before the match for reaching 1,000 career kills in late October, added 12 finishes. Fellow senior Rachel Schuman also played well in her final home contest with 22 assists and 10 digs.
Additionally, Walker Buxton also added 15 assists and 13 digs.
Along with their offensive outputs, Stewart added to her kills with 20 digs and Wilson finished with 12 defensive stops.
Outside hitter Ginny Moore paced Covenant with a match-high 27 kills and 30 digs.
Sewanee will now prepare for the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament that begins Friday, November 7. The Tigers are scheduled to play Birmingham-Southern in Conway, Ark., at 3:30 p.m.
