Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2014) – Despite being down two sets, Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps defeated the Sewanee volleyball team Sunday inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers got off to a fast start with 25-18 and 27-25 victories. After taking the opening two sets, the Sewanee and the Majors battled back and forth in the third frame. Unfortunately, Millsaps was able to hold for a 25-20 win.
The visiting team then went on and forced a fifth-set tiebreaker after topping the Tigers 25-23 in the fourth set.
Finally, in front of an energetic crowd, Millsaps earned a final-set 15-12 win.
Overall, Sewanee finished with a .143 attack percentage. Despite playing its second straight five-set match in two days, the Tigers fought to the end.
Leading the attack was Diamond Stewart, who finished with her second straight double-double. The Nashville, Tenn., native added 15 kills and 16 digs. Additionally, senior outside hitter Jamie Sue Wilson pitched in 14 kills.
The majority of those attacks came off assists from Walker Buxton (19 assists) and Rachel Schuman (14 assists).
Middle blocker Casey Hassett also played well with three kills and 3.5 blocks.
Finally, on defense, libero Sara Jayne Sutton added a match-high 39 digs while Schuman also added to her double-double total with 19 stops.
Sewanee returns to action next Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. match at Hendrix.
