Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2014) – After not being able to hold on to its lead the first two sets, the Sewanee volleyball team fought back for a 3-2 victory over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe, Sunday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers had leads in both the first two sets, however the Stormy Petrels rallied back for 25-23 and 26-24 win. Despite being down 2-0, Sewanee bounced back with victories (25-19 and 25-14) in the next two games.
Finally, in the deciding fifth-set, Sewanee rallied for a close 15-13 win to seal the match.
Overall, Sewanee outhit OU .132 to .096.
Individually, Jamie Sue Wilson led the attack with 14 kills while Diamond Stewart added 13. A number of those offensive attacks came from senior setter Rachel Schuman, who pitched in 21 assists.
Fellow setter Walker Buxton also finished in double-digits with 14.
Finally, Schuman and Wilson added 14 digs while Buxton finished with 11. All three of those players were behind libero Sara Jayne Sutton, who finished with a match-high 32 defensive stops.
After two straight home SAA matches, Sewanee will now play league rival Centre in Danville, Ky., on Wednesday. That contest is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. (EST).
