Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2013) – The Sewanee volleyball team improved to 6-0 this season, as the Tigers defeated regional-rival Covenant 3-0, Tuesday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
This season Sewanee is not only unbeaten, but the Tigers have yet to drop a single set.
After taking the opening set by a 25-20 score, Sewanee continued to dominate the Scots by winning the second-set 25-19.
In the third and final frame, both teams made runs before Covenant found itself with set point at 24-22.
Needing to score to stay in the set, the Tigers battled back. After two kills by Kayla Sewell and one by Lucy Riddle, Sewanee had its first match point at 25-24.
After each team traded the next four points, Sewanee eventually closed out the contest when Jamie Sue Wilson blocked an attack attempt by Hannah Rogers.
Individually, Sewell led the offense with 10 kills while Caroline Montgomery pitched in seven kills on 14 attempts.
Libero Jamie Kosman also played well with a match-high 33 digs while setter Walker Buxton dished out 12 assists.
Outside hitter Chelsea VanDyk led Covenant with a match-high 15 kills.
The Tigers will now look to stay unbeaten on its first road trip of the season. Sewanee will open the Birmingham-Southern Invitational with a 2:00 p.m. match against Huntingdon, Friday, in Birmingham, Ala.
