Tigers and Covenant battle to a 1-1 tie

Box Score

LOOKOUT, MTN., Ga. (Sept. 3, 2013) – The Sewanee men's soccer team battled regional-rival Covenant to a 1-1 tie, Tuesday, at Scotland Yard.

The Scots got on the board first, as Hunter Harrison headed in a corner kick from teammate Michael Arango in the 38th minute.

Despite being down 1-0 at the intermission, the Tigers came out of the locker room ready. After being outshot in the first half, Sewanee dominated the second half by outshooting the Scots 7-3.

During that stretch, junior Ford Emerson scored his team-leading third goal. In the 82nd minute the Nashville, Tenn., native dribbled past a defender off a long pass from Brian Maloney.

In the extra periods, Sewanee would outshoot Covenant 4-3.

Individually, sophomore Chris Haberstroh led the attack with a season-high seven shots.

Additionally, Emerson finished with two shots to go along with his third goal in the Tigers' first three matches.

Defensively, sophomore Jacob Zalewski played well between the pipes. In front of a sell-out crowd, Zalewski finished with four saves.

After facing three tough opponents on the road, the Tigers will look to earn their first win of the season when Sewanee plays host to its annual Kyle Rote Jr. Invitational this weekend.

Sewanee will open the two-day event with a 10:00 a.m. contest Saturday against Ozarks (Ark.).
